Trump keeps us up in the air with his hints of what's coming in a new batch of UFO files

WASHINGTON -- WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says the Pentagon is preparing to release some “very interesting” UFO files uncovered by his administration, generating a mix of buzz and skepticism as he hints at new revelations around questions of alien life.Trump started stoking interest in the extraterrestrial in February, directing federal agencies to release their records related to extraterrestrial life and UFOs. Since then, he has built suspense with tantalizing updates, teasing an imminent release of documents never before shared by the U.S. government.“We’re going to be releasing a lot of things that we haven't,” Trump said Wednesday at a White House event celebrating NASA astronauts. “I think some of it’s going to be very interesting to people.”Trump has relished in portraying himself as the president who spills the secrets. In the first week returning to office, he ordered the release of records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. The disclosures revealed little beyond what was already known. In the buildup to that release, Trump said “the American people deserve transparency and truth.” Now, as he turns to the sky, the president has struck a similar tone, suggesting

Nasim Nuñez drives in 2 as Nationals beat Brewers 3-2 | AP News

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nasim Nuñez had a pair of run-scoring singles, CJ Abrams had two hits and scored twice, and the Washington Nationals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep.José Tena had an RBI triple for Washington, which improved to 4-12 at Nationals Park.Nationals right fielder James Wood lost Gary Sánchez’s fly ball off Gus Varland in the sun for a one-out single in the ninth. Richard Lovelady came on and, after giving up a single to Jake Bauers, retired Garrett Mitchell on a grounder that scored pinch-runner Blake Perkins. Lovelady then struck out Brandon Lockridge for his first save.Zack Littell (1-4) allowed a run over 3 2/3 innings after PJ Poulin opened with two scoreless frames. Lockridge had a double and a single for the Brewers, who had won three straight.Milwaukee’s Logan Henderson, recalled Sunday from Triple-A Nashville, allowed two runs on three hits over six innings in his second start of the season. Henderson (0-1) was perfect through four innings. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight, including the last three hitters he faced. Golden Tempo's last-to-first Kentucky Derby win explained

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Watching from the stands, trainer Cherie DeVaux was not worried when her horse Golden Tempo was last in a field of 18 horses for much of the Kentucky Derby. Aboard the horse, jockey Jose Ortiz wasn’t either.By the time the race ended, Golden Tempo won by a neck, bucking the trend of closers not being able to come from behind at Churchill Downs recently and making DeVaux the first female trainer with a Derby champion.“That’s how he runs, so it’s not like we really did anything different than he had done in his previous starts,” DeVaux said. While Golden Tempo got bumped by Ocelli to his outside at the break, 38-1 long shot Six Speed went to the lead out of the starting gate and was joined near the front by So Happy and Danon Bourbon. Golden Tempo could not even be seen in the frame on television as the horses rounded the first turn. “I knew my horse was a deep closer, so I don’t have any interest in being in front early,” Ortiz said. “You can see the way I broke, (then) I go to the rail and save ground.”Six Speed set a fast

Video of NYC police killing machete-wielding man at Grand Central station released

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police have released body-worn camera footage of officers shooting and killing a machete-wielding man who stabbed three people at a Grand Central subway stop last month. The video clip posted on the department’s YouTube page Friday shows officers confronting Anthony Griffin after he had randomly slashed three people at the 42nd Street-Grand Central subway station, which connects to Grand Central Terminal. The uniformed officers, identified in the video as detectives Ryan Giuffre and Anthony Manetta, are seen encountering the 44-year-old as he walks up a stairwell holding a large knife at around 9:40 a.m. on April 11. They order Griffin to drop the weapon multiple times, but Giuffre draws his gun as Griffin continues to hold the knife high near his head. AP correspondent Julie Walker reports police in New York release body cam of the machete wielding man they shot and killed last month. Griffin then retreats back down the stairs but starts moving toward the officers with the knife still overhead when they start to pursue him. “Nobody wants to hurt you,” Giuffre says in the video. “We can talk about it. Get down. Get down. Dude, I’m not going to ask you

Ronald Acuña injury update: Why Braves star exited game vs. Rockies

May 2, 2026Updated May 3, 2026, 10:34 a.m. ETAtlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. exited Saturday night's game against the Colorado Rockies in the second inning due to what the team called "left hamstring tightness."Acuña hit a dribbler up the middle and didn't make it far down the first base line before he grabbed for his hamstring and hobbled towards first base. He was not putting much weight on his left leg.The 2023 NL MVP walked off the field under his own power, accompanied by trainers and coaches.Acuña, who went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored a run in the first inning, was replaced in right field by Eli White. The Braves had little trouble dispatching the Rockies without their star leadoff hitter, cruising to a 9-1 win. Chris Sale struck out 11 in the victory.Atlanta manager Walt Weiss said postgame Acuña is set to have an MRI, according to reporters who cover the team. This story has been updated with new information.

Former Malian minister and junta critic abducted from home by armed men, family tells AP

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — A former Malian minister and critic of the ruling junta was abducted from his home by armed, hooded men, one of his family members told The Associated Press Sunday, as fallout spreads from a wave of armed attacks against the government in the conflict-battered West African nation.Mountaga Tall’s home in the capital, Bamako, was stormed shortly before midnight on Saturday, his relative Mahmoud Touré told AP. The men did not identify themselves, nor did they say why they were seizing Tall, but Touré said they were from the armed forces. “They did not explain why and did not present an arrest warrant,” he said. “The soldiers mistreated Mountaga Tall’s wife and took his phone.”Tall served as Mali’s education and science minister from 2016 to 2017 and is the president of the National Congress for Democratic Initiative, a political party opposed to the military government. As a lawyer, he represents politicians and other individuals who have been arrested for criticizing the junta. Mali was struck on April 26 by one of the biggest coordinated attacks on its army in Bamako and several other cities by jihadis and rebels who seized several towns and military bases. Several people

Jeanine Pirro says she has evidence officer was shot at White House press dinner

Cole Tomas Allen, the 31-year-old California man charged with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) Dinner last Saturday, is "no longer on suicide status" at the Correctional Treatment Facility at the D.C. jail complex, according to a court filing submitted Sunday.Allen's federal public defenders withdrew an earlier motion seeking his removal from suicide status, telling the court the request is now moot. The filing comes as the high-profile federal case against Allen continues to unfold, with significant new evidence emerging in recent days about the shooting at the Washington Hilton. The ContextThe court filing offers a brief but notable update in one of the most closely watched federal prosecutions of the year. Allen faces life in prison if convicted of the attempted assassination count alone, and his defense team has signaled it may eventually press for his release before trial. The status of his mental health while in custody is also a matter of legal significance, as it could affect future proceedings, evaluations, and any potential defense strategies. What the Filing SaysThe filing was submitted by Assistant Federal Public Defenders Tezira Abe and Eugene Ohm. 76ers Appear to be Trying to Keep Knicks Fans From Purchasing Tickets

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Finally finished with Boston, a trip to New York came quickly for the Philadelphia 76ers. So did the memories. The Eastern Conference semifinals are a rematch of a tight series between Atlantic Division rivals from nearby Northeast cities, a Knicks victory in six games in 2024.Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Maxey delivered unbelievable performances. Both teams made unimaginable rallies.Knicks fans were deafening inside Madison Square Garden — and in Philadelphia. (And no, Joel Embiid hasn't forgotten). When it was over, the Knicks had outscored the 76ers 650-649. They start up again Monday night, believing this series can be even better.“I expect nothing less. Actually more,” Maxey said. “That was a first-round matchup. This is a second-round matchup. So I think both teams are going to come out there and be extremely competitive. It’s going to be a dogfight, it’s going to be a chess match and I’m just ready to get started.”The Knicks had a few days to rest after finishing off Atlanta with a 140-89 victory on Thursday in Game 6, setting an NBA postseason record by building a 47-point halftime lead. The 76ers have only one full day to recover after completing the NBA's 14th comeback from a

Four New Jersey residents charged with illegally voting and lying on citizenship forms

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Federal prosecutors in New Jersey have charged four residents with illegally voting. The U.S. attorney’s office for New Jersey said in a statement Friday that the four people were not U.S. citizens when they registered to vote and cast ballots in federal elections, as federal law requires. Their charges range from illegally voting in a federal election to making false statements when applying for citizenship and unlawful procurement of citizenship or naturalization. Prosecutors say all four voted in at least one federal election from 2020 to 2024, a period that included two presidential elections and one midterm election. They say the defendants, after casting ballots, then submitted applications for naturalization in which they falsely claimed to have never voted or registered to vote in a federal election.U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer said the charges reflect his office’s “commitment to protecting the integrity of our election system.” Last year, the office launched a task force focused on election-related crimes such as voter registration fraud, casting of fraudulent ballots, voting by noncitizens and individuals voting multiple times in the same election. 2 MIN READ 3 MIN READ 6 MIN READ Social media claims of widespread voter fraud surged after

Five members of pickleball club killed in Texas plane crash

Five members of a pickleball club in Texas died Thursday night when the Cessna 421C plane they were on crashed. The plane crashed in Wimberley, Texas, 47 miles northeast of San Antonio at around 11:25 p.m. local time Thursday, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. The victims were Brooke Skypala, Glen Appling, Hayden Dillard, Seren Wilson and Stacy Hedrick, per a Facebook post from the Amarillo Pickleball Club, which they were members of. The club, based in Amarillo, Texas, 334 miles northwest of Dallas, said they were on their way to a pickleball tournament. Officials have not specified which of the victims was flying the plane, which caught fire after hitting the ground. “The pilot and four passengers on board were pronounced deceased on scene. The plane did catch fire. That would indicate some pretty severe damage to the plane,” Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Billy Ray told KXII-TV. Stacy Rohr, a nearby resident who did not realize the incident was a plane crash until the next day, told the Austin American-Statesman that she heard the sound and “was like, ’What in the world is that?’ So I sprang up, came out, and looked over, and it

Wembanyama, Gobert set to match wits as Spurs, Timberwolves meet in West semifinal matchup

Rudy Gobert knew long before the rest of the world. Victor Wembanyama was only 13 when Gobert first heard of him. It didn’t take long for Gobert to see the enormous potential in his French countryman. When they would talk, Wembanyama asked the questions and Gobert gave him the answers. “And the rest is history,” Gobert said. The basketball world is now fully aware of what Gobert saw in Wembanyama years ago. A French center will be headed to the NBA’s Final Four in a couple of weeks; which one it’ll be hangs on the outcome of a Western Conference semifinal series between Wembanyama’s San Antonio Spurs and Gobert’s Minnesota Timberwolves. Game 1 is Monday night in San Antonio. “I’m very, very proud and I’m very excited to watch him grow every day, to see his work paying off,” Gobert said. “Outside of the talent, he’s someone that has a very unique soul, a very unique mind and nothing is an accident. It’s not an accident that he’s having the success that he’s having.” There’s never been a playoff series that is entirely about a 1-on-1 matchup, though it’s easy to understand why so much attention will be devoted to

New Met Gala fashion exhibit seeks to 'reclaim' body types that art history has ignored

NEW YORK -- One of the first sights we see in “Costume Art,” the new fashion exhibit to be launched at Monday’s Met Gala, is a glittering column gown by Dolce & Gabbana, its shimmering gold sequins surrounding an image of Aphrodite. The Greek goddess stands on a pedestal, holding a golden apple bestowed on her for her beauty — a classic ideal of beauty as old as, well, ancient Greece. But the idea of “Costume Art,” which examines the dressed body through centuries of art history, is not to celebrate the classical form. It is rather, says Andrew Bolton, longtime curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, to use that form as a launch pad.“Now, we go through and reclaim the body,” he says, leading a reporter through the gleaming new Conde M. Nast galleries that the show will inaugurate. The corpulent body. The disabled body. The pregnant body. The aging body. The new show, which gala guests will view before it opens to the public May 10, is the most consciously body-positive show the museum has attempted. Perhaps its most prominent feature is a group of new mannequins, based on real people with a wide variety of body types.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico (AP) — Nelly Korda delivered an early knockout punch Sunday and stretched her lead to as many as seven shots before cruising to the finish line with a 3-under 69 and a four-shot victory in the Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba for her third win of the young season. One week after Korda crushed the field at The Chevron Championship for her third career major, she left everyone feeling hopeless at El Camaleon with precision that carried the No. 1 player in women’s golf to another dominant victory.Korda went 60 consecutive holes without a bogey, a streak that ended when it no longer mattered. She had a six-shot lead playing the 18th when she sent her drive to the right and deep into the tropical bushes, never finding the golf ball. She hit a provisional into a bunker, the next one into the gallery and finished by making a 20-foot putt for bogey, only her second of the tournament. Korda stretched out her arm and casually threw her right fist with whatever energy she had left. She finished at 17-under 271, four shots ahead Arpichaya Yubol of Thailand, who celebrated her 24th birthday with a 70 to finish alone

Man United beat Liverpool 3-2 to secure Champions League qualification

MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United is headed back to the Champions League.A 3-2 win against Liverpool on Sunday confirmed United's return to European club soccer's top competition after a two-year absence. Kobbie Mainoo settled a thrilling Premier League clash at Old Trafford with his first-time strike from the edge of the area after defending champion Liverpool had fought back from two goals down. The victory saw head coach Michael Carrick achieve the target he was set in January when he was handed the job until the end of the season. Rescuing United's season from freefall, he has led the club to third in the standings and produced statement wins against Arsenal, Manchester City and now Liverpool. Victory will strengthen calls for Carrick to be given the role on a permanent basis. “When Michael comes, he came with magic. Alex Ferguson vibes," United forward Matheus Cunha said with reference to the club's iconic former manager. "At the end of the day, this is just the start of the journey. It’s the beginning, a beautiful beginning.”Ferguson had planned to watch the match at Old Trafford but left the stadium and went to the hospital as a precaution when feeling unwell before kick

Middle America-Hating Dem Calls For Authenticity. But What Happened To Her 6,000 Tweets?

Michigan Senate Democratic candidate Mallory McMorrow said on Sunday that deleting thousands of tweets trashing rural America reflects her authenticity rather than an effort to hide her past.A CNN report this week found that the Senate hopeful had deleted about 6,000 tweets — including posts mocking Middle America and bending the truth about where she was living, working, and voting. In a recent autobiography, McMorrow said she moved to Michigan in 2014, but on social media, she described herself as a California resident in 2016 and voted in California’s June 2016 primary, according to CNN. Reporter Manu Raju pressed McMorrow on the contradictions. “And I don’t need to tell you, but of course, you’re required to vote in the state where you’re a resident. So why were you voting in California two years after moving to Michigan?” Raju asked. “Like a lot of millennials, moving takes time,” McMorrow said, describing a “two-year process” before settling in Michigan from Southern California. “I registered to vote in Michigan in August of 2016 and voted in the general election in November that year.” McMorrow dodged when asked whether she should have voted in California while claiming to live in Michigan.“We still had our

Iran closes Strait of Hormuz again over US blockade and fires on ships

The standoff over the Strait of Hormuz escalated again Saturday as Iran reversed its reopening of the crucial waterway and fired on ships attempting to pass, in retaliation after the United States pressed ahead with its blockade of Iranian ports.New attacks on the strait, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil normally passes, threatened to deepen the global energy crisis and push the countries into renewed conflict as the war entered its eighth week.A fragile ceasefire is due to run out by Wednesday. Iran said it had received new proposals from the United States, and Pakistani mediators were working to arrange another round of direct negotiations.Iran’s joint military command said “control of the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state ... under strict management and control of the armed forces.” It warned it would continue to block transits while the U.S. blockade remained in effect.Revolutionary Guard gunboats opened fire on a tanker and an unknown projectile hit a container vessel, damaging some containers, the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center said. Spirit Airlines Shuts Down Due to Iran War Fuel Crisis. Other Low-Cost Airlines Could Be Next

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Spirit Airlines, an impish upstart that shook the industry with its irreverent ads and deep discount fares, announced Saturday that it has gone out of business after 34 years. The ultralow cost airline that once operated hundreds of daily flights on its bright yellow planes and employed about 17,000 people said it had "started an orderly wind-down of our operations, effective immediately." The airline said on its website that all flights have been canceled and customer service is no longer available. Some passengers arrived Saturday for flights and were stunned to find them canceled, while workers learned overnight they were out of a job. Top Republicans warn Trump's Germany troop withdrawals send wrong message to Putin

7 minutes agoJaroslav LukivEPA-EFE/REX/ShutterstockThe US currently has more than 36,000 active duty troops in GermanyGerman Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has said the US decision to withdraw 5,000 troops from his country was "foreseeable", as the Nato military alliance says it is seeking clarification from Washington.Speaking to the DPA news agency, Pistorius also stressed that "the presence of American soldiers in Europe, and particularly in Germany, is in our interest and in the interest of the US".Meanwhile Nato spokeswoman Allison Hart said the alliance was "working with the US to understand the details of their decision".Washington's move comes after President Donald Trump criticised German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for saying the US had been "humiliated" by Iranian negotiators in the ongoing war.The US military deployment in Germany - currently at more than 36,000 active duty troops - is by far its biggest in Europe, compared with about 12,000 in Italy and 10,000 in the UK.Trump has also suggested pulling US troops from Italy and Spain.Last year, Washington decided to reduce its troop presence in Romania, as part of Trump's plan to shift the focus of US military commitment from Europe to the Indo-Pacific region. There are now growing concerns within the 32-member Nato

What Can We Learn from America’s Centennial?

As we get ready to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding—in an America stressed by authoritarian overreach, economic anxiety, and partisan trench warfare—we might look back for a lesson or two to 1876, when the United States threw itself its most lavish birthday party, on its Centennial. For six months, Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park hosted the continent’s first World’s Fair, a triumphal extravaganza that comprised some 200 buildings including spectacular glass palaces that highlighted the inventions, manufactures, and arts of America and the world. Visitors marveled at giant locomotives, vast arrays of pumps and drills, the first typewriters, an electro-magnetic mallet that could be used either to fill teeth or as a pen, the “Difference Engine” (an ancestor of the computer) which performed up to 20 complex calculations per minute, one of the greatest exhibitions of American art to date, alongside potent patriotic relics such as George Washington’s buckskin breeches and the Puritan John Alden’s desk. In all, almost 10 million people visited the Centennial, roughly 20% of the nation’s population. Most visitors were awestruck. Alexander Graham Bell, on hand to demonstrate the first telephone, wrote to his fiancée: “It is so prodigious and wonderful that it absolutely staggers

Winnipeg police training needs update after fatal shooting of 16-year-old: expert

A policing expert recommended Friday that Winnipeg police factor in age and someone’s cultural background when responding to high-risk situations. Peter Rampat, a former Toronto officer and an instructor at the Ontario Police College, testified at an ongoing fatality inquest into the police-shooting death of a 16-year-old First Nations girl.Rampat said the Winnipeg Police Service’s use-of-force policy doesn’t take into account recently developed de-escalation tactics, scenario-based training, alternative options as well as someone’s age, ethnicity or ability to carry out a threat.Eishia Hudson was shot in April 2020, after officers responded to reports of a liquor store robbery and chased a stolen Jeep that Eishia was driving. The inquest has heard the vehicle rammed a police cruiser and hit other vehicles during the pursuit before an officer fired two shots. Story continues below advertisement “This is both a tragic situation, and a complicated and challenging situation for anybody involved,” said Rampat.“I try to bring balance to the conversation… I think it starts with training. That’s where it starts. Good solid training, rooted to best practice, national standards.”Const. Kyle Pradinuk previously testified that he shot at the Jeep’s driver because he believed fellow officers could have been hit by the moving vehicle.Rampat

I Streamed 'The Smashing Machine' on My Garage With the Portable Soundcore Nebula P1 Projector

May 1, 2026 6:03 AMThis all-in-one indoor-outdoor projector is highly portable and affordable—but not cinema quality.Courtesy of SoundcoreTriangleUpBuy NowMultiple Buying Options AvailableRating:6/10Highly portable. Good enough sound through the two wireless speakers. Splash resistance when you close the lens. Reasonable price for the all-in-one design.Only OK 1080p picture quality. Only supports mirroring from your phone or tablet. Picture quality settings had a minimal impact.A home theater projector is a smart upgrade if you have the space for one of the often bulky and heavy machines. That is, unless you opt for a compact, portable model, like the Soundcore Nebula P1 from Anker. Weighing just 5.3 pounds and measuring about 11 inches tall and 5 inches wide, the P1 is much easier to move around than the highly capable but less portable Nebula X1 Pro. In fact, the P1 is one of the best portable, indoor-outdoor projectors I’ve tested since 2001 (and I have tested several dozen indoor and outdoor models). It includes two wireless speakers, a large handle, and even has an IP33 rating for splash resistance. And the $800 price is reasonable compared to high-end models that topple over four digits (including the X1 Pro).Over a month, I tested the
