The 2026 Miami Grand Prix start time will be moved to 1 p.m. ET (6 p.m. UK) due to the threat of severe thunderstorms predicted to hit the track on Sunday.The original grand prix start time was slated for 4 p.m. ET on Sunday. The U.S. hit a historic all-time low in press freedom, now ranking 64th globally, according to Reporters Without Borders’ 2026 World Press Freedom Index. The organization, also known by its French initials, RSF, which defends media access and journalists’ rights, is pointing the finger at President Trump’s return to the presidency. “The US has experienced a steady decline in the RSF Index over the past decade, but President Trump is pouring gasoline on the fire,” RSF North America Director Clayton Weimers said in a statement. “Trump and his administration have carried out a coordinated war on press freedom since the day he took office, and we will live with the consequences for years to come.” RSF cites six reasons: media ownership, Mr. Trump’s litigation against news outlets, press freedom legislation, economic constraints, declining trust in the media and journalists’ safety. A maker of the widely used abortion pill mifepristone asked the Supreme Court on Saturday to block an appellate court ruling that cut off mail-order access to the drug just a day earlier, in what was the biggest jolt to abortion policy in the U.S. since the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao and Stellan Skarsgård are among the jurors who will decide the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, organizers announced Monday. Just about a week before the 79th Cannes begins May 12, organizers unveiled the nine-member jury that will deliberate on the films in competition at the annual French Riviera festival. As already announced, South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook is president of the jury. Along with him, Moore, Zhao and Skarsgård, the jurors are: Irish-Ethiopian actor Ruth Negga, Belgian director and screenwriter Laura Wandel, Chilean director and screenwriter Diego Céspedes, Ivorian American actor Isaach De Bankolé and Scottish screenwriter Paul Laverty. Moore and Skarsgård have both in recent years co-starred in films at Cannes that ultimately earned them Oscar nominations. Moore’s “The Substance” premiered at the festival in 2024. Last year, “Sentimental Value,” with Skarsgård, launched at Cannes. The festival runs May 12-23.

(AP) — Spirit Airlines, an impish upstart that shook the industry with its irreverent ads and deep discount fares, announced Saturday that it has gone out of business after 34 years. The ultralow cost airline that once operated hundreds of daily flights on its bright yellow planes and employed about 17,000 people said it had "started an orderly wind-down of our operations, effective immediately." The airline said on its website that all flights have been canceled and customer service is no longer available. Some passengers arrived Saturday for flights and were stunned to find them canceled, while workers learned overnight they were out of a job. Three people are dead and at least three others are sick after a suspected outbreak of hantavirus aboard a cruise ship sailing in the Atlantic Ocean, the World Health Organization said Sunday. The three dead were cruise passengers, said Oceanwide Expeditions, the company that operates the ship, called the MV Hondius, which is currently anchored in Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, an island nation off the west coast of Africa. Passengers will not be allowed to disembark in Cape Verde, the country’s health minister Maria da Luz Lima told Radio Cabo Verde on Sunday. However, local health authorities have visited the ship and assessed two symptomatic crew members “requiring urgent medical care,” Oceanwide Expeditions said in its statement. Hantavirus can cause a severe and often deadly respiratory illness called hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which killed Betsy Arakawa, the wife of the late actor Gene Hackman, last year. Humans most commonly become infected through contact with rodents like rats and mice, especially with their urine, droppings and saliva, according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — Britney Spears is set to be arraigned in a California courtroom Monday morning after prosecutors charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. But it will probably be only her lawyer who appears in front of a Ventura County judge. Prosecutors charged the 44-year-old pop superstar with one misdemeanor count on Thursday after her March 4 arrest.Since then, she voluntarily checked into a substance abuse treatment center. The misdemeanor charge level means she is not required to appear and her absence won’t count against her. She is unlikely to show up, though her representatives haven’t commented on the court case or her plans. A representative previously called her actions inexcusable and said it would ideally lead to overdue change in her life. The singer has a home in Ventura County just outside the Los Angeles County line. She was arrested near there. Her arraignment will be held in the city of Ventura, a seaside community of about 110,000 people about 70 miles (113 kilometers) northwest of downtown LA. The venture, backed by approximately $1.5 billion in committed capital, is designed to embed Anthropic’s engineers and models directly into the core operations of mid-size businesses, according to the Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the matter. The target market is enormous. For every dollar companies spend on software, they spend six on services — a ratio that has made consulting a multitrillion-dollar industry and that AI-native firms are now positioning to disrupt. Cornell University's president claimed he was the victim of "harassment and intimidation" following a parking lot confrontation with a group of people who said he tried to back his car into them.The incident unfolded on Thursday, April 30, after Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff introduced an Israel-Palestinian debate series that was hosted by the Cornell Political Union and co-sponsored by the Cornell Progressives, Cornellians for Israel, and Students for Justice in Palestine.Kotlikoff said the behavior he experienced while allegedly being followed to his car in an on-campus lot by six or seven people, some of them students, "is harassment and intimidation, with the direct motive of silencing speech.""It has no place in an academic community, no place in a democracy, and can have no place at Cornell," Kolikoff said in his statement released to the Ithaca, New York, university's community on Friday.Following the debate, videos posted online showed several people following Kolikoff to his car while questioning him about freedom of speech.
