Three people are dead and at least three others are sick after a suspected outbreak of hantavirus aboard a cruise ship sailing in the Atlantic Ocean, the World Health Organization said Sunday. The three dead were cruise passengers, said Oceanwide Expeditions, the company that operates the ship, called the MV Hondius, which is currently anchored in Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, an island nation off the west coast of Africa. 1,500 beagles will find new homes after release from research facility

(AP) — The first beagles removed from a Wisconsin dog breeding and research facility that was the site of recent protests seemed to know right away that they were safe. "They started within an hour or so coming up to us, wanting attention. Some crawled in people's laps. Every single one of them are super sweet," Lauree Simmons, president and founder of Big Dog Ranch Rescue, said Sunday. "I think they are loving the attention. I just know they know they're safe." Big Dog Ranch Rescue and the Center for a Humane Economy negotiated a confidential agreement to purchase the 1,500 dogs for an undisclosed price from Ridglan Farms, where police used tear gas and pepper spray to repel activists trying to take beagles from the facility last month. Protesters also broke into the facility in March and took 30 dogs. Sixty-three people were referred by the sheriff's department to the district attorney for potential charges related to that break-in. Twenty years after the original, the sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada” made a splash in its first weekend in theaters. Driven largely by women, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” earned $77 million in the U.S. and Canada, and $156.6 million internationally, according to studio estimates Sunday. It easily topped the box office and bumped “Michael” to second place, though the musical biopic held well in its second weekend, falling only 44%. Nebraska became the first state on Friday to implement the federal Medicaid work requirements, mandated under President Donald Trump's tax and spending bill that passed last summer.The bill imposes new 80-hour per month work requirements on able-bodied Medicaid recipients aged 19 to 64 who don't have dependents. In response to claims of fraud by billionaire Justin Sun, the Trump-backed crypto firm World Liberty Financial filed a countersuit for defamation on Monday in Florida State court, claiming its former ally engaged in “a scorched-earth pressure campaign” against the crypto project as Sun pushed World Liberty Financial to release hundreds of millions of cryptocurrency he owned. Sun is a crypto entrepreneur reportedly worth around $11 billion, and he’s funneled nearly $200 million into the Trump family’s digital assets projects. That includes the $75 million Sun spent on a cryptocurrency issued by World Liberty Financial and another $100 million on acquiring a store of President Donald Trump’s $TRUMP memecoin. VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — Britney Spears is set to be arraigned in a California courtroom Monday morning after prosecutors charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. But it will probably be only her lawyer who appears in front of a Ventura County judge. Prosecutors charged the 44-year-old pop superstar with one misdemeanor count on Thursday after her March 4 arrest.Since then, she voluntarily checked into a substance abuse treatment center. The misdemeanor charge level means she is not required to appear and her absence won’t count against her. She is unlikely to show up, though her representatives haven’t commented on the court case or her plans. A representative previously called her actions inexcusable and said it would ideally lead to overdue change in her life. The singer has a home in Ventura County just outside the Los Angeles County line. She was arrested near there. Her arraignment will be held in the city of Ventura, a seaside community of about 110,000 people about 70 miles (113 kilometers) northwest of downtown LA.
