Young still in control at Doral, leads Cadillac Championship. Rain forecast for Sunday's final round

DORAL, Fla. -- Cameron Young didn't have as easy of a time in the third round of the Cadillac Championship as he did while building a big lead Thursday and Friday. It didn't seem to matter, either.Young is still in full control at Trump National Doral, after his round of 2-under 70 on Saturday got him to 15 under for the week. He had a six-shot lead over a group that includes top-ranked Scottie Scheffler into a potentially rainy final round Sunday.“The tournament’s in his hands right now,” said Scheffler, who shot a 3-under 69 to get to 9 under — but hasn’t been able to close the gap on Young. “I can go out and have a really good round, and if he has another really good round he’s going to be a tough guy to catch. All I can do is go out and try and have a great round and see where that leaves me.”Si Woo Kim (69) and Kristoffer Reitan (69) also were 9 under. Ben Griffin 68), Nick Taylor (72) and Matt McCarty (69) were 8 under.Catching Young will be tough in any conditions. And nobody knows what awaits players Sunday at Doral.A lot of rain is

With Trump watching in Doral, Young finishes off wire-to-wire win at Cadillac Championship

DORAL, Fla. — The only person who gave Cameron Young any trouble on Sunday was, well, Cameron Young. He called a one-stroke penalty on himself while playing the par-4 second hole, after he caused his ball to move in the fairway. And then he made par anyway. It was that sort of week: Young was unflappable and unbeatable. He went wire-to-wire alone on the lead at the Cadillac Championship, a final round of 4-under 68 getting him to 19 under for the week and six shots clear of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (68). “When the golf course is difficult, when the conditions are difficult, that tends to make it easier for me mentally,” Young said. With President Trump in place to watch most of the round at Trump National Doral, Young picked up $3.6 million for the second-biggest payday of his career. He made $4.5 million earlier this year for winning The Players Championship. The president arrived with several members of his family — including granddaughter Kai Trump, who plans to play at the University of Miami when she enrolls later this year — shortly after noon and remained until the tournament was over. He stood for the ovation

Cameron Young calls tough penalty on himself, immediately gets rewarded by golf gods at Doral

Cameron Young began Sunday's final round of the Cadillac Championship with a six-shot advantage. Even with a huge cushion, a moment of adversity always finds a way into the equation, especially when World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is playing chaser, but Young's Sunday challenge was about as unique as they come. With preferred lies in effect for the final round following over an inch of rain on Sunday morning, Young picked up his golf ball in the fairway on the Par 4 second hole before placing it on a favorable lie.Just as he took his iron back to hit his approach shot, he paused and stepped away as he thought his golf ball had moved ever so slightly.JIM FURYK SHARES THE ONE REASON HE CHOSE TO ACCEPT U.S. RYDER CUP CAPTAINCYAfter a rules official arrived on the scene, Young went on to explain that his club was set up behind the golf ball when it rolled over forward. The grey area was whether or not Young's action caused the ball to move, or gravity simply took over. Cameron Young says it's an 'honor' to play in front of President Trump after win at Cadillac Championship

As the PGA Tour calendar rapidly approaches another major, Scottie Scheffler continues to be the best player in the world due to his consistent ability to contend in nearly every tournament. Rory McIlroy is coming off his second consecutive win at The Masters, a remarkable achievement at one of the tour’s toughest golf courses. After a lengthy major championship drought, McIlroy finally got his career Grand Slam and seems set to be a threat in every big tournament moving forward. But the hottest golfer in the sport right now might be Cameron Young. Young’s run started at the Genesis Invitational, where he finished tied for seventh. Then at Bay Hill, one of the toughest courses on the calendar, he finished tied for third. He won the unofficial "5th major" at THE PLAYERS Championship a week later, before finishing tied for third at The Masters.TRUMP SAYS PGA-LIV 'MERGE' WOULD BE A 'GREAT THING' AS TALKS BETWEEN TOURS CONTINUEA few weeks later, at a signature event at the fearsome Trump National Doral "Blue Monster" course, Young on Sunday finished out a dominant six-shot win. His second win of the season, a $3.6 million purse, -19 to Scheffler’s -13. And to top it
