Andy Reid says Patrick Mahomes in 'good position' to get on field at Chiefs OTAs

May 2, 2026, 4:24 p.m. ETCoach Andy Reid is optimistic Mahomes can participate in some capacity during OTAs.Mahomes' participation could be influenced by rules regarding the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. The Kansas City Chiefs are set to hold their first day of OTAs on May 26. Will quarterback Patrick Mahomes be able to participate in those workouts as he continues his recovery from a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee?Chiefs coach Andy Reid was asked about the possibility at Kansas City's rookie minicamp on May 2. The 68-year-old coach was initially noncommittal about the star participating in the early stages of the sessions."We're gonna see on that," Reid told reporters. But Reid seemed optimistic that Mahomes would be able to get on the field at least in some capacity."He is in a good position to be able to do some things," Reid said.Reid went on to explain that Mahomes' participation may be dictated by the rules and regulations the Chiefs have to follow if they want to be able to place the 30-year-old quarterback on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list at the start of training camp."Once you start the clock, then the clock's gotta be rolling,"
