Jayson Tatum ruled out for Celtics-76ers Game 7

Updated May 2, 2026, 8:40 p.m. ETEditor's note: Keep up with 76ers-Celtics Game 7 with our live blog, here.Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum is out for Game 7 Saturday, May 2, against the Philadelphia 76ers, the team announced less than two hours before the game. The team announced the forward’s downgraded status Saturday afternoon after he developed what the team said is "left knee stiffness" which forced him to leave Game 6 with about four minutes left in the third quarter.Tatum had been seen with an ice pack on his left calf, and reporters on the scene described it as a calf issue. He was in the hallway working on the stationary bike during Thursday night’s game, but eventually just headed into the locker room and did not return as the Celtic s fell 106-93. That loss allowed Philadelphia to erase a 3-1 series deficit and force the win-or-go-home game on Saturday. Tatum downplayed the injury after Thursday night’s loss. "My leg was just a little stiff when I came out," he said after the game. "It was my other leg. Not the one I injured last year. I wasn’t overly concerned."Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla was also confident on Friday,

76ers’ Paul George Trying to Play Through Illness in Game 7 vs. Celtics

News ArticlePublishedMay 02, 2026 at 07:08 PM EDTBy Megan ArmstrongThe Boston Celtics ruled out All-Star forward Jayson Tatum for their Game 7 matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the NBA playoffs on Saturday night. Tatum's official designation is left knee stiffness. Fans might have thought the 76ers had an edge to complete a 3-1 comeback, but Philadelphia won't be at full strength, either. They just got All-Star center Joel Embiid back from his appendectomy, and now they have to worry about All-Star forward Paul George. "He woke up this morning not feeling well," 76ers head coach Nick Nurse said of George in his pregame press conference. "I mean, we're expecting him to give it a shot here. He didn't go through shootaround or anything, but we're expecting him to give it a shot."That's not the most encouraging endorsement. George is officially listed as probable with an illness....George served a 25-game suspension earlier this season for violating the NBA and NBPA's Anti-Drug Program policy. He returned in late March, and his presence automatically made a difference for Philly. He's made the Celtics, specifically Jaylen Brown, feel his defensive presence throughout this series. Boston was the second seed

Joe Mazzulla Explains Reasoning Behind Jayson Tatum Being Ruled Out for Game 7

News ArticlePublishedMay 02, 2026 at 07:08 PM EDTBy Cole SullivanIn one of the more shocking developments of the postseason, the Boston Celtics announced just hours before Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers that star forward Jayson Tatum would be ruled out due to knee stiffness.Tatum had exited Game 6 in the third quarter after showing visible discomfort in his leg and calf area. He briefly returned to the bench in the fourth quarter and was considered available to return, but ultimately did not re-enter as Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla opted to sit the starters for most of the final period with the game already out of reach.Following that performance, both Mazzulla and Tatum downplayed any concern about a potential injury, and all indications initially suggested he would be available for Game 7.However, shortly after Tatum was officially ruled out, Mazzulla addressed the media and explained that the forward arrived at the arena with stiffness in the back of his knee. After consulting with the medical staff, the decision was made to hold him out as a precaution, especially given his recent injury history.“Today he came in and he had stiffness in [his knee], and we kind of made a

Jayson Tatum Reacts to Missing Celtics’ Game 7 With ‘Unfortunate’ Injury

News ArticlePublishedMay 03, 2026 at 05:35 PM EDTBy Matthew CoudenContributing WriterThe Celtics held a 3-1 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers, which soon became a 3-2 lead, and then a tied series, heading back to Boston, and most fans believe it shouldn't have ever gone to Game 7.However, it did, and the Celtics had to play a full-powered 76ers squad as Jayson Tatum could only watch his teammates and offer support from the sidelines. The multi-time All-Star was seated on the bench in the crucial Game 7, due to the team choosing to hold him out with knee stiffness.Tatum participated in all of the other games of this first-round Eastern Conference series, but his sitting out this one was considered the right move by many. He suffered a brutal torn Achilles tendon injury in last year's postseason, which resulted in surgery and a grueling rehab. He returned to play 16 games in the regular season as his team was already a strong playoff contender in the Eastern Conference. Postgame Interaction Between Jayson Tatum and Joel Embiid Goes Viral

News ArticlePublishedMay 03, 2026 at 05:34 PM EDTBy Cole SullivanThe Philadelphia 76ers eliminated the Boston Celtics from playoff contention on Saturday night with a 109–100 win in Game 7, a game Jayson Tatum was forced to watch from the sideline.Tatum was ruled out hours before tipoff due to knee stiffness after appearing visibly uncomfortable in the second half of Game 6, where he briefly exited the game before returning and later downplaying any concern in his postgame comments.Boston ultimately chose to be cautious with him, especially with Tatum still less than a year removed from his Achilles injury. Despite strong efforts from Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, the Celtics struggled offensively, shooting just 40% from the field and 26% from three-point range as a team.More news: Cade Cunningham Sends Clear Message on Pistons After Historic Comeback...More news: Austin Reaves Reveals What He Told LeBron James After Lakers’ Round 1 WinAfter the game, Tatum made sure to show respect to 76ers star Joel Embiid, which drew a lot of attention on social media. Some Celtics fans weren’t thrilled with the friendly exchange so soon after a Game 7 loss at the hands of Embiid, who finished with 34 points, 12 rebounds, and
